R score calculator

Estimate your R score before it is published.

A course's R score is only known about a month after the semester. myRScore estimates it as soon as you have your grades and your class average.

Why myRScore

A course's R score depends on your grade, your class average and three values you almost never see: the standard deviation of the class's grades, its strength and its spread. Other calculators often ask you for these values, or assume that your class is average. myRScore estimates them for you:

  • from official data: the history of the same course, at the same CEGEP, taken from the data of the ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur;
  • according to your program: the classes of the same course do not have the same strength from one program to another, and the estimate accounts for it;
  • with your official R scores: as soon as you enter some, the tool measures its own gap with them and corrects the estimate for your other semesters;
  • with its limits: each estimate comes with a range, and the tool flags those that are unreliable, explaining why.

Its accuracy was measured on tens of thousands of real classes, and the methodology gives the results.

What you need

  • The name of your CEGEP and your program.
  • For each course: its code (for example 603-101-MQ), your grade and, if possible, the class average and the number of credits granted for the course. You will find all this information on your student portal, such as Omnivox or Colnet.
  • The official R scores you have already received, if any.

1. Create a semester

In the navigation menu, choose "New semester", then the term (fall or winter) and the year. A semester corresponds to one term at CEGEP; add one for each term you took during your studies.

2. Choose your CEGEP and program

Search for your CEGEP by name or city, then your program. Check "First semester in this program" if you started it that semester. myRScore uses this information to estimate the average level of your cohort and, if it is your very first semester at CEGEP, to count your failed courses with a reduced weight.

3. Add your courses

For each course, enter:

  • the code, which you can also search by title;
  • the type: program-specific, for a course of your program, or complementary. A course whose code ends in -MQ is automatically marked as general education;
  • your grade and the class average, as a percentage or a fraction, such as 7.5/10. Adding the class average makes the estimate much more precise;
  • the credits, which give the course its weight in the calculation of the overall R score.

When you receive a course's official R score, enter it, since it replaces the estimate and the tool uses it to adjust the estimate of your other semesters.

4. Read the estimate

Each course shows an estimated R score and, in miniature, the range where the real R score is likely to fall. The bar at the bottom of the screen gives the semester's R score and that of your whole record, your overall R score. By clicking on it, you will see all the details of these estimates.

5. Aim for an R score

In the record details, under "What grades do I need?", enter the overall R score you are aiming for. Under each course of the semester shown, the grade you need to get there appears.

Save your record

Your record is saved in your browser, on this device. To keep it or open it elsewhere, "Export the record", in the navigation menu, creates a file, and "Import a record" loads it back into your browser, in place of the current record.
